If you double the distance between two charged objects, by what factor is the electric force affected?

HELLO_ asked:

If you double the distance between two charged objects, by what factor is the electric force affected?

Is probability a waste of time when physics is involved?

Tryandstopme asked:

Like the spinning of a arrow on a circle. and see which color it lands on.

Is it really probablity when you take into account of all the factors such as force applied to spinner, is spinner on flat surface, how evenly divided is the spinner..

If you can take all this into account, cant you figure where its going to land without guessing.
To me it seems pointless to teach kids this…..why do we do it…….for entertainment?

Help, Operations Management challenge question?

Matty asked:

I have tried so much trying to solve this question, but obviously I gave up and need some help.

“BeGood corporation designs and manufactures products that make the world a better place. They recently designed a new product and are making process choices for its manufacture. Choice A involves utilizing their current work force with a minor investment in equipment. This investment would be $50,000 and would require another $85 in labor per unit. Choice B involves an investment of $950,000 in new equipment, and would require another $25 in labor per unit.

required:
(a)- which choice would be most appropriate if BeGood sells 2500 units? Why?
(b)- which choice would be most appropriate if BeGood sells 1000 units? Why?
(c)- at what volume would BeGood be indefferent to the process choice?
(d)- in the context of your answer to part (c), what other factors that BeGood should be considering?”

I need to quit this multicultural sorority; is it possible to be a part of an NPHC sorority after the fact?

Gigi asked:

The sorority I joined was not what I thought it would be. The foundations it boasted are fragmented and forgotten; the change–the service–it promised the community is left broken; the sisterhood is fake and divided. I feel like it hides behind a facade that no one can see…except me. They are member-hungry and losing the focus the founders worked hard to establish. I can’t see any stability in this, and I recognize my membership as a mistake.

But what are my reasons to join another sorority? Well, I don’t see myself as just “joining another sorority.” I see myself becoming an addition to a powerful organization. Understand that I am a driving force alone, but if I were to stand with strong women that I can call my sisters, I think I would be all the better. When I say “I” here, I mean that I will be able to help in the important work of the recognized organization. Additionally, I am in love with Jesus, my Lord and Savior. I can’t believe I didn’t factor Him into my decision when I pledged that other sorority. I would want this organization to be a part of my life where when I give, I give on one accord, and when I receive, the seed planted in me will reap with benefits according to God’s will.

My reasons are many, but my time is spent. I would think most answers from non-NPC or non-IFC Greek members would yield a response that demonstrates comprehension to my question because I know that, historically, most of these GLOs have similar values to NPHC. Although, if you are NPC or IFC and you understand, do answer.

Thank you,
Gigi

Interesting science questions.?

Cosby26 asked:

1.) Match each quantity with its corresponding units
Force m/s2
Acceleration Newton
Velocity g/cm3
Weight kg +m/2s
Density kg +9.8m/s2
m/s

2.) True or False ~and~ EXPLAIN why you think so.

A liquid is the only state of matter that can be described as a fluid

3.) Test your Ability to Compare Pressures!

You are walking with a friend on an ice covered pond. Suddenly, the ice begins to crack. What option (A, B or C) would be safest approach to use for a retreat to the pond’s edge?

A. Run as fast as you can across the ice to the nearest side.

B. Lie flat on your stomach and pull your self toward to side of the pond by sliding along using your hands and legs in a swimming fashion.

C. Stand very still until the ice stops breaking and then tip toe over to the pond’s edge.

4.) List the two factors that affect fluid pressure when it is not moving

5.) Using the mathematical definition for pressure, calculate the resulting force in the situation described below. Answer must include both the number as well as its appropriate units!

A brick falls from the third floor of a construction site. 800 pascals were produced by the brick when it hit the ground on its end, which measures 0.15 m by 0.25 m. Determine the amount of force contained by this brick.

I need help with martial arts! Kung fu style to choose?

Firion asked:

I’m trying to find a kung fu style for self-defense and enlightenment. I need one that suits me: at the moment, fifteen years old, skinny (not alot of muscle/strength), but still very fit and healthy. SO it may seem like I need a style that deals more with the power of speed than the power of strength. I’m looking for something that deals with speed, but still has a few occasional relatively powerful blows (although I suppose exceptions can be made to this if the style is so effective in other areas that some power is not needed.) I also want something that doesn’t totally disperse the idea of building chi (qi); someone in an earlier question said that going sinking your body into Dantien would raise shen levels in the mind, which would mix with the body’s chi. Not sure how it works, if it’s true, etc., just saying. So far I’ve looked at Praying Mantis (particularly Northern), Wing Chun (not in very great detail, still unsure what the general style is like), Snake, Tiger, and Eagle Claw.
Praying Mantis seems very good; I like the mixture of speed, chi, and strength, though I’;m not sure if it’s practical or not? Wing Chun’s arm movements seem effective, though as previously stated I haven’t been able to unearth much detail. Snake seems good for it’s fast hand jabs and low kicks. I didn’t like Tiger to much once I realized it dealt more with brute force and strength over speed and chi. Eagle Claw I’m unsure of; I can’t find hardly anything on it. It seems to have a good mixture of strength and kicks as well as acrobatics, but I’m unsure of the general style’s differences and the speed and chi involved (so far it seems to be comparable to Tiger as far as those factors are concerned.) As far as other styles are concerned, I’ve ruled out (DON’T WANT) Tai Chi Chuan (doesn’t seem very practical), Drunken style (teachers and schools aren’t available enough), Northern Long Fist, and I’m not sure where I stand on Choy Lee Fut. ANYTHING that ANYONE can offer–websites, personal experience, opinions, experience in actual styles, knowledge, absolutely anything–will be very very helpful. I need something relaxing, fitting to my body, that increases fitness and general well-being as well as meditation and the like, and something that provides self-defense. Important Note: YOU DON’T HAVE TO CONSIDER ALL OF THE LISTED REQUIREMENTS I’VE MADE IN ONE “PERFECT” STYLE. IF A STYLE DOESN’T EXIST THAT CONTAINS ALL OF THEM, THEN JUST PROVIDE SOME STYLES THAT PERTAIN TO *SOME* OF THEM, OR LIST A STYLE FOR EACH CHARACTERISTIC. Basically what I’m trying to say is, please; anything at all could help me right now. Thank you.

Why does electromagnetic radiation move the way it does?

JimBrown257 asked:

When electromagnetic waves come from an electric current, they oscillate in phase perpendicular to each other and perpendicular to the direction of energy propagation. So when they are oscillating around the electrical current, they will be moving either clockwise or counter-clockwise.

I understand why and how they oscillate but I don’t understand what makes them go in the direction they do. I know that the waves move perpendicularly to the current but when they start spinning, why would they go clockwise instead of counter-clockwise?

If you want to see an example of this, check out this video at 3:30:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3jAdoukvck4

The video is about the equation E=MC2 but this part is about Faraday’s discovery of the electromagnetic force. Here it shows the electromagnetic radiation moving counter-clockwise around the wire. Why is it moving counter-clockwise instead of clockwise; what is the deciding factor??

Thanks!
